Las Posadas, which in Spanish means "the inns", is a celebration of the birth of Christ. A local man and woman play the roles of Joseph and Mary and go from door to door seeking a room. They are turned away from each house and ultimately take refuge in a stable where a local infant is placed in a manger. I took these photos in this short video in Alamos in Mexico in 2002.
